America is Living on the Edge.

Celebrate National Coastweek

September 18-25, 2004!

Americans love the coast. We flock to the coast to live, work, and relax. More than half of us live within 50 miles of the coast, and the coastal regions are growing at a faster rate than the rest of the nation. Every year tens of millions of visitors and hundreds of billions of dollars flow through coastal communities for recreation, travel, and industry.

Sadly, the coasts we treasure are in trouble. Overuse, inadequate planning, and pollution threaten the very things we love most about the coasts -- the magnificent scenery, vibrant communities, diverse ecosystems and valuable commerce.

If we want to save those treasures, we all have to get involved. We -- those who live, work, and depend on the coasts' natural and commercial resources -- must become active stewards of the nation's coastal riches.

It's time to Live on the Edge responsibly by getting involved in National Coastweek!
